Does anyone successfully use Essential Oils to make natural Mosquito / Noseeum Repellent that works? If so post your recipe, if not what do you use!? There are so many different opinions and ideas on the web but wondering if anyone has real experience using anything good in the VI that works on the VI Mosquitoes and Noseeums!

You can try the one I use. I'm on STT, but will be on STX Nov 1 for Bull and Bread Day. I ordered it from Grenada. Skin So Soft never worked for me.

PM me.

I use an all natural / organic bug repellent locally made on st. Croix .

Renuatum spa makes it . If you google the spa there is some good information / articles .

I started using it just for the kids but then I started using it as well .

Their phone number is 718-2440.

I agree. With the ever-present dengue and now chikungunya, I wouldn't take the chance of using "natural" products which simply don't work for everyone. Particularly not for a new resident who hasn't built up any immunity to our local mosquitoes who aren't even carrying any viruses.

The mosquitoes never stopped biting me. I try to stay well covered at home and directly near a fan. I get bitten if I don't.

So the one you're recommending doesn't work.

Old tart , funny when I was posting I heard your voice in the back of my head saying just that 🙂

I agree the deet products definitely work better . Newcomers especially do need to be very careful right now .

Of all of the natural products I have used this one has worked the best for me ( still not as good as deet)

I went through that whole "new blood" routine many years ago, so when my system developed some immunity to the local predators and I took a weekend jaunt to Vieques I really didn't think too much about protection. What a huge mistake that was. Those "foreign" mossies swarmed on me and a frantic spraying held them at bay for the next couple of days but my grossly bitten and swollen legs were a sight to see for weeks after I returned to STT! Be scared, be very scared ...

DEET...its the only effective solution.

Agreed. DEET at 23% or more is effective. Skin So Soft is not.

The other effective adjunct repellent is permethrin which is marketed as REPEL for clothing and gear. It cannot touch the skin though. You can use it to spray bedding and curtains.

The mosquito likes to hide under tables and beds and behind curtains. Keep your doors closed especially near feeding times like dusk.

Though I've been bitten quite a bit since coming to STT, I've been using a heavy drop of dish soap and a heavy splash of water in a dish to combat the mosquitoes. It's not an immediate fix-all, but after a few hours it definitely cuts down on the bugs. Otherwise, I spray a little insect repellent on myself during the day.
Good luck!
