Hey - I have a question!

"Anyone have something positive to say about the island?"

Yes. I do. I love the courtesy of greeting one another immediately. This is such a simple thing that has been missing in the states for far too long.

Holy crap this post went off topic!!

Getting back on topic, here are 2 positive things that one wouldn't necessarily think of until they live here:

1) The parks. VI Public works does an excellent job with the parks. I live near DC Canegeta and the tennis courts, basketball courts, ball fields, swingsets, and jungle gym are all fantastic. The refurbishment at Altoona Lagoon is very nice as well. Even our main shopping center (Sunny Isle) has a jungle gym for the kids which is fantastic.

2) The festivals. There are so many different festivals. I went to Chilli cook off this weekend. Last weekend it was St. Patty's day parade. A few weeks ago people were celebrating Mardi Croix and DR Independence day. The jump ups are always fun. Christmas festival is exciting. Jump up's, parade, j'ouvert etc. are all fantastic here.

Gracious....I am the original poster and wow! It did get off topic. We arrived on the island yesterday. So far I have lots of positive things to say. We spent the day sailing, anchored at Buck island, swam, had a few drinks, spent time with some nice people, had good food at the docks, and are resting comfortably at our condo resort. Then people have been very friendly, the island is more beautiful than we remembered when we were here on a cruise. Thanks to everyone that has replied. Even the little things you post are helpful about keeping it positive.

The island of STX is awesome [IT IS COMPROMISED LIVING]..............with that being said the choice is yours.... You will have some really fantastic experiences here that you will remember and talk about forever. You will also have some terrible experiences that you will remember and talk about forever. Just like anywhere else. The island living isn't for everyone, but, be informed and cautious and things will be fine. You won't get rich living here, but your life can be enriched.

To the OP. If you are here on vacation - have fun. If you are here to determine if living here is for you, remember when you move here you won't be on vacation. Do the regular, day to day stuff too.
