Any thoughts on timing?
Here's the scenario... We are selling my husband's database management business here before we move to STT. The sale has caused us frequent delays, as we were originally slated to move this month, changed that to January 05 and now it's looking more like April! I will be looking for work as a property manager and while I'm told that is a fairly stable industry in the islands, I really hesitate to move at the end of the season. Am I overly worried about the seasonal thing?
Any thoughts are appreciated.

I think my post got lost... anyone?! Please!?!
CaliKat,
Not sure if I can help you re: VI. I'm in the same situation. Was originally slotted for January and now possibly moving in April.
I figured if it's like they say (seasonal) and anything like FL. (where I currently live), the job pickin's are gonna be slim depending on what you do. I don't know if property management would be affected by seasonality so much, as say, a hotel position.
I'm making adjustments for this and accepting that I'll have to take ANYTHING until something better comes along.
Good luck,
Bou'ya
I don't know if this helps, but I have been here since August - my husband since May and we don't recognize the so called 'off season'. Back in the states, the off season meant no tourists. Here it means there are possibly three days a week that the ships don't come in and cancelations if a hurricane is nearby. What I mean is that the off season just seems to mean a slow down of tourists and a couple of days a week to go to a beach with few people. I am getting a little worried that the 'on' season means this island will feel crowded and crazy. There seem to be plenty of jobs and so many new resorts and restaurants opening that I don't see how the island handles it all. Do I sound overwhelmed? Because I am! Of course, there is St. Croix which I hear has a much more country like feel and less tourists. Depends on your perspective, I think. Any other opinions?

Don't think property management is the type of industry that is so dependent on tourism. One good thing about moving at that time of year is that people who come for the season are beginning to move and housing will be easier to find.
Thanks Teresa, You helped us a little too. We're planning a move also and we wanted to check out the possibility of having a retail shop year round and not solely depend on the 4 winter months. To start out though we could keep our shops here and our festival business (March -Oct) and come check out the winter season, makes some contacts, then plan the permanent move in a few years...this is a goal of ours and I'm just looking at all possibilities. Of all the islands we've visited, we felt St Thomas was the one that goes with us the best. It would be even nicer if we could continue business as usual there on the island as well. Thanks again for your thoughts on timing...I think this message board has been the best source for me, just reading about other folks has been invaluable. Thanks again Theresa.

what is considered "off season"?
how long is hurricaine season?
Thank you all so much for your replies. We are just chomping at the bit to leave. We have already downsized from a large 3 bedroom house into a small 2 bedroom apartment (no garage!) in preparation for the move and we just can't stand it! We were that close to leaving!
Anyway, thanks again everyone. See you in the spring!
Cali
As far as I know, the 'off' season is June thru November - making December thru May the 'on' season. Hurricane season is June thru November, although historically hurricanes can come whenever they want. Most come in August and September. Someone else may have the 'official' season's, but that is what I have come to know. Have I used enough ' ' marks? 😉
