Hi
I was just wondering if there are any teachers on St Thomas who read this message board. I would like to get some advice from some local teachers on getting a job down there.
If anyone can help that would be great, i am getting a bit nervous that I won't find a teaching postion, even though everyone tells me that they are in high demand.
I have already sent my resume/packet to the USVI Edu Dept., as well as to the Antilles School, but I have not heard anything...is this to be expected?
Thanks for the help!
Brooke

I just posted some info at the top of the page, but just wanted to add this note to you personally:
Do not wait for them to call you. Indeed, they may find your resume impressive and feel that you have all the necessary credentials. Nonetheless, they will not pursue you, you have to do all the work and all the follow-up. Good luck!

Brooke,

Definately follow up, think I mentioned this a few days ago too.... things happen, papers get lost, people mis-place them, and on and on.... island time.... 🙂 call and just be polite, see if they received it, if there is anything further you could send to help them with their decision, if they want to do a phone interview???

I don't know how things are there now with the administration (being that it has changed completely since I started there in 1996) in getting applications processed..your best bet is to call call call. Send an extra copy if you have to! Something else you might want to do is to send it directly to the attention of the headmaster, the head of the division in which you want to work, as well as the department chair for that division. When I applied, it didn't take long for them to call for an interview, but that was 8 years ago and as I said, the administration has changed a good deal here in the last 2 years (the headmaster they had for YEARS died in a freaky home accident, and the head of the upper school who became headmistress for a year while they were searching for a new headmaster retired after one was found) and may operate on a completely different timetable. It wouldn't hurt to give the school a call!

Their website is www.antilles.k12.vi.us

I LOVED working there, and hated leaving when my husband got transferred with his job back to the mainland. Good luck!
