Any scrapbooking addicts?
Hi everyone,
It's been a very long time since I last posted. I've been on island well over a year now, settled into a neat apt in the rainforest, busy at work all the time, too.
I noticed that someone here mentioned something about having a nice photo for her daughter's scrapbook, and that got me to wondering if anyone here is interested in getting together for scrapfests.
Let me know and I'll organize the first one.
MsKinsey (aka Eva)
Eva,
What island are you on?
Best,
LR
I love to scrapbook, but alas have no time. It is an addiction that I have shoved aside since moving on island. Got to think about falling off the wagon. If you are on STT, than I will really have to think about this. I have some supplies I could share. Oh boy, got to think about this...
Teresa
Hi LR and Teresa,
I'm on STX.
LR, are you on STX? That would be great.
Teresa, I too have had little time to scrapbook lately, but I'm going to change that in the new year. I've got 30 years of photos and memorabilia to get organized before I move back to Texas, IF I move back to Texas.
I do go to STT every now and then for work, but I'm usually there only for one or two days and then I'm working the entire time. Every once in a while, though, I have to stay overnight (usually at the Island Beachcomber) and then we could get together for a 2-3 hour scrap.
You really can't get much done in that amount of time, I know, especially after unloading and then reloading supplies, but we could have a good exchange of ideas. I'm still pretty new at this hobby, and I have a lot to learn, especially about some of the more advanced techniques.
On Sunday afternoons, I often work at The Frame Up, and I've been trying to get the store owner (Dan) to make some space to have classes, not just scrapping classes but needlework and art classes, too. It would be a good sales incentive, IMHO.
Eva
Eva, please tell Dan there are those of us frustrated m'landers who would LOVE to have knitting or crochet or needlepoint or WHATEVER available...I'm an extremely frustrated quilter (in 90 degree weather, go figure...)...and if anyone out there knows a good source other than the internet for quality yarns, please advise...natural fibers are great!
I would LOVE to scrapbook. I have done quite a few books, cards, etc. Gave all my female friends fleurish boxes for Christmas.
Please let me know - I'd be happy to host at my house, help organize or anything. I've been in withdrawl since we came here!
I am on STX; phone is 773-1965 ext 1203. We live in Colony Cove Condos. Let me know what I can do to help! I also have supplies I shipped over here.
-just to avoid confusion, this is travelwoman (ie Linda) NOT my husband 'twindomes'. Ha! didn't want you to think you had a man wanting to join you for scrapbooking!! (...not that theres anything wrong with that - as Jerry Seinfeld would say)
Eva,
I am so bummed- I'm on STT, not STX. Would have loved to have joined you- I have photos from my days in Texas (and other places) that I would love to get in one place- other than a big plastic tub!
Good luck putting together a STX group.
Any STTers interested?
Best,
LR
Hi Linda,
YES! This is so exciting! At long last, I meet another SB addicts who is on the same island that I'm on. So cool! Even if we don't find another soul to join us, we can still have a scrapping good time.
And as for male SB-ers, I've found a couple on some SB sites who OUTDO the ladies for scrapping! This one guy made such a great cabinet for all their (his and his wife's) stamps that I had to print it out. Maybe one day I'll own enough and will get my ex to make me a cabinet like that. That guy is so sweet ... he even confessed that he has to sneak new supplies into the house when he goes overboard. A former neighbor of mine in Texas had the same problem with her husband, except it was hunting and fishing supplies. I don't know which is more expensive, to tell you the truth ...
LR, we'll figure out a way to get together. Maybe this year when the new year-round ferry starts up, you can come over here for a weekend. I've got a tiny place in the rainforest, but there's room for a queen-sized air mattress!
Eva
Hi Becky R,
Regarding yarns, I suggest that you call Merritt, the manager of the UVI Bookstore (692-3160). She used to work at Dan's when she first came on island. She loves to crochet and knit and eventually hopes to teach classes in those arts.
Just between you and me (and whoever reads these posts!), she isn't wild about the Red Hook brand yarn that the Frame Up carries. I'll bet she would know of some good places to get natural fibers.
Also, have you tried eBay?
Eva
Eva and Linda -
I have been here on STX for a few weeks visiting and am planning to move here. I leave this next week to return home to officially move and should be back by the end of January. I would love to get in on this scrapbooking as Ive done a few things in the past and even still now do some "scrapbooking concepts" even without my pics around - I'll just do a "page" about something current happening or something i did...very therapeutic and a chance to let the creative side flow. Anyway- let me know what you might plan and Id love to get involved.
Lisa
I am moving soon to STX-just getting into SB, both daughters really good at it. I'm gathering neccessities to have what I need to go big. Both girls go to crops, One has Sizzix, but I'm just learning. Count me in.
Hi everyone,
Gee willikers! It looks like the ball is really rolling! I never thought I'd get such a response. I'm glad to see that there are other souls out there who miss this as much as I do.
So far, we're up to 4 gals on STX (or soon to be on STX) and one on STT (who we'll get over here somehow!). Should we aim for sometime in February for our first crop?
Eva
February sounds great! I have commitments on Monday nights but other than that I am free day & evenings. So, what works for you?
My phone on island is 773-1965 ext 1203.
Linda
Eva -
Well, here I am in the middle of the scrapbookers....oh dear....I don't "do" the Red Hook yarn - it has to feel right and be right to fool with it...my attention span is short, as some of the posters on this board well know!
I have tried ebay - but I love to look and feel and was so hoping someone knew a place I hadn't located yet. Ah well...yet another reason to return to the states once a year...
To Travelwoman et al...yell at me when ya'll start the scrapbooking - I've never done it, but it looks pretty neat - maybe my ADD brain will be able to follow it?
Hi Linda,
I'm usually free most evenings and weekends, too. Sometimes I play trivial pursuit with a group on Monday evenings, but it looks like they are changing to Tuesday nights.
I'll give you a call this weekend. Right now I'm up to my ears in getting ready for the new semester at UVI.
Eva
So far my schedule is pretty open as well. I should be back to STX around the 25th. I leave today and am looking forward to finding some new supplies when in the states to bring back. Looking forward to getting together and Ill stay on top of the message board to find out when the first get together is.
Lisa
Hey all-
I have arrived back on island and spend two weeks getting settled. Just now had time to see if anything had come together with the scrapbooking. I'm looking forward to it and to meeting more wonderful people, Ive had a great time meeting so many people lately. Anyway - wasnt sure if a certain day had been decided...but just wanted to see if interested folks were still thinking about a crop or get-together!
Lisa
I live in Colony COve. Were you down by the pool scrapbooking at the table? It looked fun! I've never really gotten into it all that much because I never had time, but now...all I have is time. I found a craft store in STX Last week.
Hi fellow scrappers, cardmakers, and stampers -
Definitely! I'm ready for the cropping party from hell! How about a marathon crop? Any time after the Agri Fair is good for me. I'm helping at 3 booths this year, so Feb. 17-20 is shot. That's a busy weekend since Sunset Jazz is the evening of 2/17, and I'm also volunteering at the 1st annual trash bash the at St. George Botanical Garden the night of 2/18.
I've got tons of supplies now, which I bought at eBay auctions over the holidays: paper, stamps, embellishments, drawing pencils, markers, everything. Anyone need inkpads, an eyelet setter, the MM toolkit, etc.? Somehow I wound up with duplicates of a lot of stuff. You can have them at my cost, which is way below what you would pay retail on island IF you could even get some of this stuff here.
kmulhoon
PS: Twindomes, I apologize for not calling you. I took a bad fall and have been recuperating from that for a while now. I've got your number and will call you this weekend for sure.
