Any N.E. retirees on STX
I was wondering if there are any New Englanders retired on STX. It is very expensive to live in the Boston area between real estate and the cost of living in general. How does it compare to living on STX? The real estate prices seems about the same. In the course of a year, which has the higher cost of living?
groomingirl,
Real Estate Taxes are much lower on the islands, Utilities are higher (electric year round) however take inconsideration you have no gas or oil cost during the winter months, on an annual basis it's close in price/cost. Food prices are about 30% higher "some items" are about the same. Compared to Boston the annual cost would close.
Are you kidding? It seems as if half of Boston lives here.
All other costs may be pretty much the same, but the big cost-of-living difference, if you plan to become a home/condo owner, is hurricane insurance. It costs thousands extra per year and is outrageous on STX and the Virgins compared to other islands.
Groomingirl I live in NE and STX
Here's how it compares for me:
Tax for my house in NE 8,000 a year
STX 1,200 a year
Utilites NE: Oil and Electric 7,200 a year
Electric STX 2,400 a year
Food is a little bit more, but you probably won't drive as much so you'll save on gas for your car
And we paid 1.25.9 for gas today., on STX. Higher on STT. How much is it in Boston?
I paid $1.79 a gal. yesterday.
