Good Morning Islanders!!
I am so relieved and pleased to have come across this forum of searching for information on jobs/living in USVI has not been as easy as I thought it would be.
Well there are few questions that I have. A friend and I have been planning a job abroad for some time, the most challenging decision was to chose where to go and what job to apply for. After some time researching different countries and locations we came across the USVI and agreed that it would be the ideal place to experience culture, island life, nature and living / working abroad. This would of course not be longer than 2 to 3 years as it would be a gap to experience, travel, live and work in another country.
We are From Windhoek in Namibia, a densely populated country in situated in the southern tip of Africa. Neighboring countries are Botswana to the East, South Africa to the South and Angola to the Northern boarder of Namibia. We are both of Namibian Nationality and have German as well as English background. We are both skilled / experienced fishing and camping guides and we are open for any job offers available to us. I Clyde am currently OPS Manager for the DB Schenker Transport Logistics rep in Windhoek and my friend Kevin a skilled and qualified Joiner working for a popular joinery in Windhoek.
I would like to find out what information is required from us to enquire a working permit for the USVI for no more than 3 years and what additional information we would need for job placement, recruitment or for applying. We have accommodation in st.Croix, Christiansted which would not be a problem.

Work Visas have different criteria that the applicant needs to meet to qualify. Examples that follow (are only Examples):
H-1B visa requires the applicant in a specialty occupation and have a higher education.
H-2B Visa is for seasonal jobs in which the US is in a short demand of applicants.
Most Visas have Annual Quotas.Check with your consular services in Namibia to find out whats required to leave your country as well.

Thank you so much your info is much appreciated. Will contact the US embassy, see what additional information I can get from them and what criteria I fall under.

I think you will find it rather difficult to get a work Visa at this time. You might have a better chance if you have a needed job specialty (skill)and applied on the US mainland, rather than a small island group such as the USVI. In fact, you will have a much better chance if you can qualify for a student visa rather than a working visa.
The US Virgin Islands has a somewhat limited employment potential. Most jobs are tourist oriented and rather low paying. Most professional jobs are highly prized and difficult to get. I don't want to sound too discouraging, but this might not be the place to start your adventure. However, you should keep gathering information and maybe something will work out for you and your friend.

If you do a google search for such topics as "US Immigration Laws" you'll find links to the US Immigration Service website and hundreds of other websites that will provide answers to all your questions regarding the legal requirements for entering/living/working in the US (including the USVI's). FYI - It is not easy for a foreign national to immigrate and work in the US.

I have been to the US before, I reperesented Southern Arica at a youth peace conference .... my Visa is still valid for another 11 monthes. would it be a problem to have it exteneded or request for a work permit with the visa i have already?

If you are going to work here you must have a worker's visa. Its not the hardest thing to get but it can be time consuming and it may take quite a while to get. If you come here on a vistor's visa and end up working here (and are caught doing so) you will be sent back to your home country and be denied entry into the US for a long time if at all.
