Any help would be great!
Hello, My girlfriend and I are relocating to STX early this August. We were thinking about finding a 1 bedroom in Christiansted. Is this the best choice? Also, we are going to need to find a job there, any suggestions on where to apply or what some of our options would be? My last question is if anyone knows any information on shipping large items such as a kayak that would be great! If any one could assist us at all that would be great! Thank youu! Travis..
Our goal is to find a furnished 1 bedroom for around 600-750. We would like it preferably as close to the beach as possible or close to shops, food and all that good stuff. We are originally from New Hampshire so this is a big move and the more help we can get the better! Thank yo again! Travis and Laura
Travis what kind of work do you guys do ? Plenty of shippers located on the opening page of this web site. Anyone of them could ship your Kayak.
Please do yourselves a favor and read, read, read all that you can on this forum. The people here are helpful and have already been through what you're planning. I know that things aren't cheap in NH, but they're positively mind-boggling here! $600 to $750 for a furnished place by the beach might not be doable if you want it to be clean and safe. Jobs are scarce unless you're in the service industry, then you still have to depend on finding something through word of mouth by someone you already know here. For the shipping, I highly recommend Flemings Transport.
As some on this board like to say, "gather up at least $10,000 and a round trip airline ticket and come on down!" I'd say that pretty much sums it up! Also, another important point... if either of you struggle with drugs or alcohol, this is probably not the place for you.
Good luck!

I've got several "reports" I've done on moving here - along with a relocation package. Email me and I will send them to you. kim@email.vi.
I shipped all my stuff thru vi cargo. reliable name on the island and the ladies in the office were pretty helpful. it's worth checking out and they can give you a quote. as far as jobs, august is slow season, so retail is gonna be a challenge. on the other hand, we have a lot of people leaving for the states right now, so random jobs are popping up. also, a new capt. morgan distillary will be opening up this fall and they may have misc. positions to fill later on. i found checking out company websites is really useful (esp. for hotel/hospitality type jobs). my boss at scuba has a ton of links to hotels and some resturaunts at www.stcroixscuba.com.
good luck
