I'll be needing to buy a cat litter box and some litter and food for my cat when I arrive in st john. Any place I can find that stuff w/o having to travel to st thomas?

Yes, there are several. The best bet being Starfish Market in Marketplace and another named Dolphin Supermarket in Cruz Bay.
