Ann M - Your Moving Story
Hello Ann,
You dissappeared from the board after you moved to St. Thomas back in March. So now that you are back on the board, hows it going? I remember you were moving with pets, going to work in hotel management, was looking for good coffee shops... 🙂 How about a moving story of your first 6 months? Saw you wrote about having bad luck; hope you will share the experiences. Maybe others can share some supportive feedback.

Wow, you are good. I wish everyone on the Island was as friendly as this message board.(for beginers) I forgot my sign in and password many times before and then gave up
I got to work in March thought things would get better there but not even close. The hotel is horrible and the complaintes roll in every minute of the day. I tried to change departments but my honesty ruined it. I told them i only plan on staying another year unless my luck gets better.
It started after we moved from out of the hotel. We rented a place on Raphune hill that is nice except the landlord has not kept up with the place. When we were moving in they started to do some repair work and then 3 weeks later just gave up on the place. We have two holes in the ceiling htat leak when it rains. Cant afford to buy a standing ac because our windows don't fit ac's. Our clothes are getting moldy and mildewy every where.
We are having financial hardships as well. I decided that when we moved here I wanted a reliable dependable car and opted on buying a 2004 Rodeo. Great car but pricey payments. Not to mention the narrow roads here. We had to replace our bumper twice and that took forever. It then got hit a third time and now waiting a third time. So now once it is fixed I am going to try to sell it to pay off the loan and have some money on the side to buy an Island car. I spoke to the dealer and repair man and according to them the car is still worth 21,000 because it only has 3000 miles on it and is fully loaded.
I want to move to either another apt and different job and maybe I will be happier. The dogs love it here. I let them off the leash to go to the bathroom and chase the getcos. The trip in for them was great as well. But the negative side is we did not get a chance to rent a condo because no one wants dogs and all the good private listings say no pets.
Oh yeah my boyfriend was driving one night when the bumper was hit. Now we have to go to court because an off duty officer came up to him and started taking pics and they got into an asltercation. Now we have to pay $2000 for the lawyer and worry about additional charges. We have one car and I drive every where now and it is frustrating. LONG STORY.
Like most people suggested before I am trying to enjoy the activities of the Island just not to go insane.

Ann M: I would also like to hear about your move and your stay. Is there anything that we could have said to make your stay any better or different? I would say, although I'm not sure it is supportive, that a 6 month stay is probably pretty normal. I do hope you will share with other potential VIers! All the best for your future!
Must have an AC just to keep from getting moldy. The best living is condo living. Don't buy expensive furniture (wood, the draws stick). STT is no place to work in a hotel. Most hotels here rooms suck mold, mildew, old and run down.
I remember you as well. Thank you for your concern.
What I could use is a better job with same or better pay and cheaper rent.

Ditto! 😉
YOu can buy a portable a/c unit. They now work with no drain! There are also dehumidifiers that might help. Didn't think Raphune had that problem.

Unfortunately so, I know i saw them at k-mart for 400 and that right now is even more than what we can afford.
Also at this point any office job away from cronic complaining gst will suit me just fine. 🙂
Hello Ann,
Thanks for the feedback. How about finding a new apartment that doesn't have a leaky roof - I'd say that might have a lot to do with your mildew issues. Sounds like the car is a big downer in terms of the fender benders and payments - hope you get a good price so you can lift that monkey off your back. Make sure you get a good used car, rather than a real island car... the latter will just bring you more grief in terms of repairs.
The police issue is crazy. :X I have heard a few similar stories and have to wonder if its not the same jerks that aren't being punished. I hope you filed a complaint with Internal Affairs so the officers can be investigated. :X
Sorry to hear this has been such a rough 6 months. I hope things start looking up. It’s off season right now so there are usually more apartment availabilities, perhaps look around and see if you can find something more comfy. Keep us posted on the progress.
All the best,
