I placed on order for something that was in stock on Feb 29. Still hasn't shipped and shows preparing. Never seen that before. I was surprised that they were willing to ship it here (phone), so now maybe they won't?

Should I cancel????

Thank you.

Not unusual at all. Most of what I order is shipped very quickly but sometimes there's a wait of a week or more. You can always call them.

Thanks for the reassurance. What's the number to call them? I couldn't find a link to support. Thanks.

I will wait for Watergut or whatever the persons name is to come here and tell all about the legalities etc. As soon as that is done I can give you info on the real situation.

I have gotten the "preparing for shipment" many times. Don't know why exactly but I guess some times it takes longer to get stuff shipped. Sometimes several days. Only once it seemed to be taking several days and I contacted them and they actually said something was stuck with the order. I think that was the order where they got it unstuck, put it on expedited shipping, (got the free shipping to VI), and gave me a $10 credit on next order.

You can't call them, you have to ask them to call you back. Or else chat or email.

Usually when you have an order hung up with Amazon it's because they will hold that item until they have a shipment going the same place as yours in order to save themselves on shipping charges. This is what was told to me once when I had that blasted item preparing for shipment. I wouldn't worry unless it's a month out especially where you are located, remember your not in Kansas anymore Dorothy.

Mike, that may apply stateside where they deliver via UPS but not here where their deliveries come via USPS.

Taking days to "prepare for shipping" is not good service, IMO. I have been an Amazon member since 2001 and I don't think I've ever had anything held for preparation, but I usually only order books or dvds and not that often.

Walmart was more expensive, but I think I'll try them and see what happens.

This isn't complicated nor a sign of poor service. Like every other business under the sun they sometimes have items on back order. I've very occasionally (rarely in fact) had an order held up and if this is the first time it's happened to you in 15 years then consider yourself fortunate for having defied the odds.

I've also recently suffered the 3-4 day "Preparing for shipment" situation with Amazon on 3 separate orders over the last couple months. Never experienced it before, as I recall. On each of the orders, the items were listed as "In stock" & available for same-day shipping. Not sure what's changed, but something is certainly different.

Every other site let's you know in advance it's on backorder and gives you the option to wait until it comes or exclude it from your order. I didn't just start ordering items yesterday.

Glad to hear that someone else was hit with this issue for the first time. Seems like Amazon can't keep up with their new delivery services and inventory. Transparent they are not.

Amazon phone number is 1-888-280-4331. The info they gave me did not reflect the status on my account so I cancelled the order.

Now I have to start over with another vendor. 🙁
