Hi! Im Cory!..First of all--> I think this message board is incredible!

I (31) am seriously contemplating a move to the islands, STT to be specific. My family lived on STT for about 5 years and i used to visit for about 6 weeks at a time(school break), we also used to come down to do some sailing. We usually rented a 40-50 foot sailboat and cruised around everywhere! So, its safe to say i know the island of STT and STJ quite well. During these times i have fallen in love with the island feel, the slow pace of life, the music, the food and the charm of the local people. I currently live in New York, so a switch to STT would be MAJOR. I work in the glass industry, and seeing that STT has recently changed to building code to Dade regulations is very interesting, people need safety glass instead of those costly/ugly shutters. I have good connections in the glass industry i feel i could easilly find some work. My girlfriend is in sales and has a very bubbly personality. We think jobs will show themsleves 🙂 Money is not the main objective, but being happy and enjoying life is. Now to the questions 🙂

1) We used to live in St Joseph & RosenDahl, just off of Skyline Drive, beautiful! The advanced version of MLS allows you to search by area, so which areas are comparable? Peterbourg is prolly too much $, but living in Bovoni would be BAD!! Red Hook and up near the Ritz are fantastic!! With the Reggae on and island views to town is not a problem Which "area" to search? How is Nazareth?

2) I have read tons about renting out the "common" apartments under houses, and have read the boards of ususal prices(obviously in good area), but how easy is it to find a decent tenant and deciding weekly(vacationers) or monthly(local) rates? Daily News? A rental sign? Web Site?

3) Just for Fun, please list you favorite "thing" and least favorite "thing" about living on St Thomas

Thanks in advance for the replys
Cory

Well, as a Crucian, my favorite thing about St. Thomas is the shopping, certain restaurants, and proximity to St. John and the BVI. My least favorite thing is the crowdedness, mountains, and the fact that they get a ton of cruise ships while we get none!

1. I live in the Estate Nazareth neighborhood...........all is quiet and wonderful, close to Red Hook and the Food Center grocery store which is porbably new compared to when you might have last been here. I don't believe that the Smith Bay area would be a good choice at the present.

2. My most favorite thing is the waters here. Proximity to St.John where I would like one day to be able to afford to live is why I have chosen the East End.

Least favorite and a positive challenge at the same time - the way the government seems to stumble along over "process" - but then, how is that different from anywhere else?

Yes, the difference between a street corner in NY vs here?.............not even a question my book!.

Thanks for the replies Paul and DL, you both have alot of informative posts from different views on this board 🙂

DL.. You dont like the mountains? Why not mountains?

Paul.. How long have you been in Nazareth area? Has Red Hook changed in the last 3 years, hevent been on island since New Years 1999..

What is the best time of year to come look for long term rentals or purchase? Thinking of coming down in the next 2 months to investigate, and i do realize that word-of-mouth and connections plays a big part...

Well coming from an island that is mostly flat, whenever I go to St. Thomas, I'm like "I could never live here". I guess because I'm not used to them. St. Croix has mountains, but they don't cover the entire island and they're not as steep... Besides that, I like St. Thomas. It's a nice place to visit...

My favorite thing was all the good places to eat, the GREAT weather (you may have a crappy day, but it's a crappy day with a GREAT view), good shopping, and being able to lay your rear end on the beach in the middle of January while others are elsewhere freezing their butts off.

Least favorite? How long it took to get anything done. I got to where if I needed a car part, I'd have my dad FedEx it to me to NOT take 6 weeks to get it fixed, etc....completely annoying.
