Am I expecting too much?
Wow, :@)
That's actually kind of funny how that worked out... I am imagining some vehicle screeching to a halt at your door, someone dashing in, a bunch of cartoonish noises with springs and nails flying around in a cloud a dust, with only the money order hanging in the breeze left by the person's departure.
Glad you finally got your service; I'd love to know if they heard about this thread. It would certainly be poetic justice.
Congratulations!!!
I mentioned this thread to someone that I know who knows the owner of Orbitron who forwarded this thread on to him and I think he's read it. Maybe he'll respond with what happened. You hate to see local businesses getting thrashed but at the same time that level of service is just unacceptable.
Glad Alan worked out for you, he's a real asset to those of us who want "stateside quality" TV on island as well as those of us on the board! I'm a big hockey fan and I got a kick out of watching "hockey night in canada brought to you by Scotiabank" here in the VI where we actually have Scotiabank 🙂

really wish we could afford the dishes for dish network. innovative is so pricy for what you get. for dish network both the 4 and 6 foot dishes would total about 1200 dollars. a bit much for my budget. if we can ever have the regular size dishes i would be more than happy to get dish. i had directv in the states and i do miss it
I bought my own dishes from a vendor in Miami. Channel Master 6 foot fiberglass for $325 each. You need to put together an order of 4 or more. VI Cargo shipping was $100 for all 4 dishes. The other option is an aluminum dish. They work but are not as durable. The 120cm(4ft) aluminum dish runs $149 and the 180cm(6ft) aluminum dish runs $189 from Sadoun plus shipping.

It sounds like getting a dish on any island is tough. over here on STT it took 4 months and dealing with 4 alleged vendors that wanted money up front without doing the install work first or just didn't show up. I finally found a dealer here via a friend who is a dealer stateside. He warned me about even calling dish network about down here in the VI. When you call ask the tech how long they have been working, if it's less then a year ask them politely to speak to a supervisor. This is not to say someone with less then a year on a job is not highly competent. It is just that VI and VA are different and some people with dish are not aware. I have had great success with this vendor, including help getting east and west coast feeds of network stations. If anyone needs the info send a PM. NO I do not have an interest in the company. Just really pleased and satisfied with them. I complain about bad service, but love to report on outstanding service
I have had Dish TV and Hughes Satellite for close to 5 years, Alan at Paradise Satellite(718-2488) did both installs.
The few times I have had a problem it has been dealt with in less than 24hrs.
He keeps appointments and knows what he is doing.
I highly recommend him.
PS--I would never dream of installing my own equipment ; I like having someone to call when I have a problem--someone who lives on St Croix, not the states or an outsource in India.......
Last time I shipped 6 foot Channel Masters the order was for 2 dishes, 2 brackets, and 2 boxes of RG6 cable.
Total shipping including ground in Fl, clearing etc....... came to over $500
Rotor, you must get a special deal. Or it was long ago.
Thanks for the support.
Sky/Alan,
My numbers for the Channel Master dish were from 5 years ago. The Sadoun numbers are from the current web page, my last order from Sadoun was for an 8ft dish and was about a year ago.
I did refer a few friends to the distributor in Miami about 5 months ago. They placed an order for three 6 ft dishes. They did not qualify for the quantity discount and paid $389 for each dish. The dishes were delivered to VI Cargo for no charge. My friend is looking for the receipt from VI Cargo, I will let you know when I hear back from him.
I know everyone is not into do-it-yourself but it is an option. Many websites have aiming tools where you input your lat/long and the sat and the tool gives you azimuth and elevation. I then use an inexpensive peaking meter to find the sat and the receiver itself in signal strength mode to verify the correct satellite and fine tune the aiming. It's not rocket science. Pointing a fixed dish is far easier than one with a polar mount and jack that sweeps the entire satellite arc.

I was also told that my friends were not charged sales tax in Florida since the distributor delivered direct to the exporter.
John
Shipping the dishes with VI Cargo cost $438 for the 3 dishes and mounts. I guess Shipping costs have gone up quite a bit over the past 5 years. That means the 3 dishes cost $535 each delivered.
STX resident let me ask you about hughes net how is it??? some people tell me that on cloudy days which are many now you get very slow speed. I am asking you because my monthly price to broadband vi is soo expensive and i was thinking of getting hughes net before but allot of people that have it in the Island tell me it gets slow.
