Alternative to American Airlines
I fly once or twice a month to the US from STX with a couple of weeks notice. Typically, I fly American Airlines (AA) and the cost is $600 to $800. Today, I had to extend my stay on the mainland (for travel next week) by ONE day. I checked the web and it calculated an extra $600--which was about the price of the original round trip ticket.
AA said that's right. I asked why it was more than the other web sites were charging for one-way tickets and doesn't the low fare guarantee apply? I was told no that it was a CHANGE and the guarantee doesn't apply.
So i looked around and find that I can string a Cape Air flight to an Airtran flight in San Juan for $270. That's for a ticket with almost no advance notice. That's a deal.
In my opinion, AA isn't doing STX any favors. What we need is COMPETITION.
I think some are doing the Spirit Air and connecting with Cape Air on STT to STX.
If you can get to either puerto rico or stt there are always small airlines you can take that bypass AA. The problem is it's often NOT cheaper and you have to pick up your luggage and haul it to another airline and pay luggage fees again.
STX is the airlines red headed step child. Or rather no one has enough starting capitol to really give AA a run for their money anywhere in the caribbean.
I found tickets on cheapoair.com from Newark,NJ directly to STT for $223 and 3 hours later it went up to $548. They still have $223 flights but with 1 stop in between.
What was the RT Brad?
From NJ, what Airport (Newark or Atlantic City)?
I just got back from Florida, for that price to NJ, I may want to visit some family/friends (my customers here are gonna killme)!
Avis(car rental) was awsome, only 160 for the entire week!
OK,I declined the 2.5 MILLION insurance they offered(we drive here everyday with only 15K,my ccard has 50K).
