My hubby had something similar not too long ago. Went to Urgent Care, did not help much as to know what the rash was from, they said it was up to him to think of what it could be. He did get anti itch meds...that were prescription steroid based, which really helped fast. Benadryl did not.

Took a while to figure out, it was from the sap of mango's in the yard.

We had tons of mango's last year (in a different yard) never a problem.

This time, he touched one, and was in pain and sick for days, with a huge rash, and one eye swollen shut...

Afterwards, we heard many stories of people having experienced the same with certain types of mango's.

Hope this helps, good luck!

Give him double dose of benadryl right away and if he has breathing problems get to the hospital. Do you have an epi pen. One time my son had a serious allergic reaction with a rash and I poured milk all over him. It worked immediately and gave him relief. The only allergist I know is based in St. Thomas and comes to St. Croix once a week. I will see if I can find the name.

You might try making an appointment with Dr. Moorman. Although he is a plastic surgeon, he was the one to decipher and successfully treat my son's rash after a few other doctors and several weeks of misdiagnosis and no improvement. His prescribed treatment cleared up the rash within 48 hours.

Maybe the following;

Virgin Islands Ears, Nose, and Throat

773-8801 Stx

Beeston Hill Medical Center

Even though they are ENTs, they also diagnose allergies and do allergy testing.

My no fail mix for allergic skin or eczema - mix in the palm of your hand 1/2 cetaphil cream (the cream, NOT the lotion) and 1/2 cortisone cream. Mix as much as you need and apply once or twice per day.

This is something that has worked for my daughter and me, my ex boyfriend, and my husband's skin troubles all with asthma and allergies, and I have recommended it to many friends who have had positive results. The cetaphil works to moisturize and comfort the skin, and the cortisone works to reduce the inflammation and itch.

However, this is not a long term solution and you need to see a dermatologist. But I used this on my daughter's eczema when she was a baby and the doctors couldn't help, and it cured her quickly, as well as my husband's skin troubles.

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF THE SUGGESTIONS, I DO APPRECIATE IT. WHEN I GET HOME TONIGHT I WILL GIVE HIM THE INFO. I ALSO LOOKED ON LINE LAST NIGHT AND FOUND PEOPLE WHO SUGGESTED USING APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, I USED AN APPLICATION ON HIM LAST NIGHT. DIDN'T SEEM AS RED THIS MORNING? ALSO PUT SOME ALOE VERA ON HIM.

NO BREATHING PROBLEMS FROM THE RASH. HE DID TAKE DOUBLE DOSE OF BENADRYL.

Personally I wouldn't use aloe Vera. If it's an allergy aloe Vera can make it worse.

speee1dy, I had a crazy rash not long ago. Couldn't figure out what I was allergic to.
I went to Dr. Merritt she is a dermatologist. She did not know what was causing the rash. She gave me a perscription, it's called Betamethasone Dipropionate Lotion 0.05%, it's a liquid. It took the rash right away and made the itch stop fast.
I get the medicine at Diamond Pharmacy. They have it the cheapest. I paid $70 a bottle. My insurance doesn't cover meds. I hate to pay that kind of money but it works.
I would say go to any doctor and they could perscribe the medicine above or maybe something else.
Hope this helps.

You definitely need to get him to a doctor. My daughters rash last year turned out to be a combination of a fungus and resistant strep bacteria. It was life-threatening. Take him to a doc!

You never know, it could also be shingles. Those ads have been running lately telling us that 1 in 3 people develop shingles. If you had chickenpox as a child, you could get shingles!

Have you considered dengue? any fever, aches or pains?
The rash for dengue apears differently on adults, can almost look like sunburn and itchy.
Just a thought. I know of a few cases on island right now.

seems either the homemade body powder or the cooler weather is working. the rash is drying out. it still feels like he is on fire when he is out in the sun but he can do longer stints out there. also going to the beach as often as he can.

thanks for all of the help
