Allergist on St. John
My husband and I are moving to St. John next week. I'm in search of an allergist on the island, or worst case St. Thomas. Does anyone know if there are any allergists on St. John? Or specifically where one would go for allergy shots? I checked our health insurance website for doctors and couldn't find any.
Thank you!

This may be your only option. There are no allergists listed in the Yellow Pages on any of the islands.
Medical facilities on St John are very limited and most who need specialized help go to St Thomas for it.
or worst case St. Thomas.
Ugh! Sorry you will need to go to St Thomas for most of your medical needs. You might check out http://www.entvi.com/, they do all things allergy related. Does your insurance pay for any doctors in the VI?
That's the group I linked, EE. Hellokeri, you'll get used to going over to St Thomas. . Most St Johnians come over to do bulk shopping, medical visits - and of course dealing with many businesses and government entities, so don't be looking at it as being "worst case" anything!
Thank you all for the information! It was very kind of you to take the time to reply. I figured St. Thomas would be my only option. I've been allergy-free for the last few years after going through a series of allergy shots, but wouldn't you know, starting a few weeks ago they are back - with a vengeance! I was concerned that I might need shots again, and since the last two times I did the series of shots, my appointments were twice a week (8 shots a week!) I wasn't sure if going back and forth twice a week to St. Thomas was going to be my only option. However, with this link you both shared, I see that there have been improvements in allergy treatment and I might be able to take advantage of taking drops (from home) rather than bi-weekly shots. You all just made my day!!!
East Ender, we do have insurance that covers some doctors in VI, but unfortunately the closest ones seem to be in Puerto Rico.
I'm going to cross my fingers and hope that once we get to the island, I will find myself allergy-free. The ocean water seems to do wonders, and my allergies have always seemed to improve - or even disappear - on all of our visits to the islands over the last 30 years.
Old Tart, I laughed at your 'worst case' comment. Touche'! Of course, I'm laughing now, but I'm sure I'll be crying later! ha.
Thank you again so much for your replies. I'm grateful that we are moving to a place where people truly seem to care about helping one another!
Have a wonderful day!
I asked about the doctors because in my experience, state side insurance doesn't cover care here. Puerto Rico is much bigger so has more options and probably better prices. Unfortunately, you do have to factor in the plane ride and the hotel costs, as well as the language barrier (for many). For some newcomers, allergies disappear, and for others, new ones appear. I hope you are in the disappearing allergy camp!!
OT: Oops, I didn't even see your link.:$)
Thank you! I was pleasantly surprised to learn that there are a few general practitioners covered under our insurance plan (Anthem) in St. John and St. Thomas. Unfortunately, no allergists! But at this point, I would happily max out my credit card for some relief!

It's the weekend - always a decent excuse! 😀
