OK, how long before the first civil suit by a bilked investor against the State of Florida?

"Upon reflection, would I have liked to have done it differently? Would I have liked to stop them from doing what they currently did? Yes, of course."

Great quote.

Thanks for the article!

There was a huge article about Stanford in the July issue of Vanity Fair. http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2009/07/allen-stanford200907

STX wasn't mentioned even once, I think the island "leaders" have actually done a very good job of keeping the VI's name out of the mud!

Do you really think STX leaders did something proactive here (I'm asking - not being sarcastic)? It seems to me STX doesn't get mentioned because Stanford's involvement here was a fraction of what it was in Antigua. Maybe if they had finished their building and moved their world HQ here as planned (not to mention building their own airport - greedy bastard) STX may have been closer to the epicenter but as it is I suspect we're just not worth mentioning.

I think that the fact that Antigua was had basically booted him when this started happening and that he was seeking refuge in the USVI, had approved for receive tax benefits, and had groundbreaking ceremonies with the Governor and Lt. Governor of the USVI were things that could've been included in the article. The fact that he was using the USVI to try to avoid a $104.2 million tax bill that the IRS claimed he owed was also something of interest. Basically, Stanford was already in the process of moving to his next target from which to conduct his shady offshore business and this one was an American territory seems very relevant to the whole story and I was surprised that it was not included in the in depth article.

Somehow the USVI has been barely mentioned in most of the mainstream media which is a good thing. Whether this was due to some sort of effort by the EDA and government (I've heard from some that they did make such an effort), or if as G2G suggests its just not as newsworthy as I think it is (I work with journalists for a living but am not one), I don't know.

To the government's discredit, they do still have pictures up of the groundbreaking on their website which kind of make us look like we were ready to be hoodwinked too: http://ltg.gov.vi/press-releases/lt.-governor-francis-participates-in-groundbreaking-for-stanford-co.html. I would definitely take them down if I was running that site, a Google search of Stanford De Jongh shows those pictures near the top of the list.

Ah, I see your perspective now. Whether through concerted efforts or pure luck we dodged a bullet it appears.

The lack of ac seems to me like apt preparation for his infinite future, so he should try to grow accustomed to the heat.
