Alicia "Chucky" Hansen not her legal name?!?
This one baffles me. Page 20 of today's Avis has a legal notice in the back, ACTION FOR CHANGE OF NAME
Notice is hereby given that ALDEN ALICIA PICKERING, aka ALICIA HANSEN, has filed a Petition seeking to change her name of ALDEN ALICIA PICKERING to ALICIA "CHUCKY" HANSEN.
So I wonder, if her name of Alicia Chucky Hansen was not her legal name previously, was she elected illegally with a name that was not legally hers?
????very weird
I doubt there's anything illegal about it at all. Apparently she was born to Martin Pickering and Medora Paulis Williams, but was reared by Mr. and Mrs. Leon Hansen.
Nicknames are not allowed.
Personally, I was hoping never to hear that particular name, ever again in context with any senatorial election, ever again.
Y'all better register to vote or don't complain.
Once again ALANA 33.....you said it best!!UGH!
So if my name is Jane Elizabeth Doe, I can legally run as Elizabeth "Fatty" Lewis, when that is not my legal name?
That does not sound legal, that you can run in an election, be put on the ballot, voted in, and called something that is not your legal name.
Ask an attorney. A discussion centered around something which is apparently outside the realm of knowledge of any participants is meaningless.
It is not meaningless.
Carl Hartmann might know, or someone from the Board of Elections might read this message board and chime in.
I remember the name discussion at Board of Elections, and here's a link to VI Consortium article where the issue was discussed.
It is my understanding, though, that at some point the Board decided that in order to minimize confusion (!), they now require candidates to use their legal name. The senator who used to run as Terrence "Positive" Nelson recently changed his legal name to Positive Terrence Nelson (or something like that), and that is how his name should appear on the ballot.
I think that whenever the media says "according to VI Code" they should give us the code #, so we can verify that it is truly a law. Nobody could quote the code for 90 day residency requirement, and the court overturned it, because there wasn't in fact a code.
I've searched some of VI Code Title 18, but don't see where there is any reference to what type of name candidates can use. So far, everything I've looked at just says "name."
Ha, ha! Nobody on Board of Elections even knows about this forum.
Thanks so much ms411
You have given meaning to this discussion!
I knew someone would help, instead of chiding me!

I was hoping to never hear her screeching voice again. Especially when she says push

You're welcome. I hope some of the St Thomas Board members are voted out, and I'm trying to follow the election as closely as possible.
Chucky Hansen applies for name change from Pickering in today's Daily News

Elected using an alias? "Served" under an alias? Paid in course of her duties as a USVI Senator using an alias? Obtained a passport under an alias? Social security number issued using an alias?
Surely some of these must be criminal acts?
She is Alicia Hansen on the candidate list at VIVote.gov. I would love to see notary's log.
I love that they accepted her paperwork without any way to contact her lol
I often wonder how many "contributors" to this forum actually know how to use the internet to research simple facts. I'm no Chucky fan (not by a very long stretch), but this "news" was covered elsewhere before the Daily Snooze produced their article.
As far as I can ascertain there was nothing illegal about how she named herself before a "new rule" was effected by the Election Board but she's now toeing the line in this regard - as is Mr "Positive" Nelson and as Addlebrain will have to do if he decides to run again.
Nelson had previously petitioned the court and received the adjustment to his name. He is now legally Positive. 😉
Frankly I find Chuckys a little more concerning. How did she get a passport in her alias?
Chucky must have some legal documentation that authorizes the name change to Hansen which probably enabled her to get passport under that name. DN is vague on the details since Chucky never responded.
The petition shown in the paper includes Pickering in the signature. So what ID did she produce under Pickering name? Does she have current ID under both names?
I would like a detailed explanation, but unless somebody objects, we probably won't get one.

This is a truly major issue and I think you should be the "somebody" to gather together all those concerned and do whatever it takes to get to the root of it to obtain transparency.
I just might do that. One of my goals for this year is to test getting records from Board of Elections so this could be my test case. It needs to be done in person, so I need to go to St Croix.
Too many missing details, and I'm a stickler for details.
Chucky is back! You will hear her name in your sleep because she's that powerful. Get ready for victory on November 8. Chucky is number nine, her slogan is "keep them in line," and all her fans are on cloud nine.
The clerk of the Court misinformed Chucky by telling her she must sign court papers that identify her legal name as that which appears on birth certificate.
Where's the upchuck emogi?
Where's the upchuck emogi?
😛
But who is going to keep her in line?
