What is causing the air quality to be so bad?

My sinuses second the opinion of Sahara dust! Plus just run your finger down your windshield and you can see it on your finger.

But it does cut down on storms so .......

Not Sahara dust this time; Pollen. Every single blade of guinea grass is blooming, from Pt Udall to Hams Bluff. Most trees are too...the downside to such a wet season!

The pollen count on STT was actually in the low range yesterday. Mold, on the other hand, EESH!

This is a great site for monitoring mold and pollen counts on STT.

Monday was SO CLEAR on STX.
Then Tuesday...it was like a dust cloud enveloped the island.
My dust/mold allergies, however, haven't gotten worse lately.
Strange.

yep, yesterday was horrible. i kept thinking i was driving into a rain storm. but nope. just the desert dust. also sometimes the volcanic eruption blows here and hovensa and wapa. all of these things contribute to the poor air quality here.

Wow...those mold counts are off the chart. Good link!

But...in my experience, 'mold' is very localized. The institute may be in a high mold area.

My sinuses actually had a harder time when we lived on the 'dry' east end of St Croix, than they do now on the 'wetter' northshore area. I believe that is because there was a lot more particulate matter (dust) in the dry air of the east end.

There are certain areas along certain roads here on StX where my sinuses go crazy. (the road by the Ag Fair fields for example). Doesn't seem to be a wetness issue, but a plant issue, yet I'm not allergic to pollen.

My eyes have been itching and watering for 2 days now. Looking north towards STT from the northshore it looks like fog. Visibility isn't that good. Hope it clears soon, or I'm gonna' have to scratch my eyes out!
