We have two of the Mitsubishi "Mr. Slim" units in the upstairs portion of our house in Kentucky. The units mount on the wall, make virtually no noise, and are tied to a small outside compressor via one connector cable. These units work great, have a high efficiency rating, and make almost no noise. Highly recommended!

We're installing the "split version ACs" at Point Pleasant....they're very efficient, virtually noiseless.....cost for the unit plus installation is around $3,000.

The Mitsubishi split air stxdreamer talks about is generally considered the best you can get and good on energy. But like anything REALLY is energy efficient not just energy star it cost alot more then the average split air. It will probably pay for itself in a year or two though in savings.

Betty:

That's the unit (Mitsubishi) we're installing.......they estimate that it will save about $100. per month on electricity (that's an estimate...we'll see).

That means we will "break even" in 30 months.........

Mitsubishi makes several different models. I have a two ton unit from their most energy efficient line to cool my bedroom and it uses about 3.2Kwh to cool by bedroom for nine hours. I don't cool the bedroom to meat locker temperatures just to 79.
