advice on moving
so I am a 24yo,married and might be getting a job offer in STT that starts around 28,000-30,000 a year for a unionized job. I have been to STT and STX before and love it but I am not sure if this amount of money will be enough to live on. My husband will find work once we get down there, he has a bachelors degree and psychology and has worked in construction for the past 5 years. Can anyone give me a ballpark figure on the moving expenses and rent for a 1bedroom place. we also have a dog we will bring with us, hes 25lbs. This will be my first time ever moving, I have lived in the same time my entire life and I'm ready for some change. How is communication with people in the states? I have a very close family and I'm worried I won't be in touch with them as often as I'd like. There's so many questions I have but don't even know where to start. I have researched a lot on the Internet and just cant seem to find the answers I'm looking for. we have been talking about moving to STT for a while now and buying property and eventually building our own house but we never thought it might be this soon. Its scary moving somewhere new, not knowing what your getting into. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!
Welcome! You have come to the right place. There is loads of info here. You can find some FAQs above under VI Moving Center.
Your husband should have no problem finding a job as there are lots of construction projects going on. Communicating stateside should be the same as back home. Get a local number cell phone from ATT with a nationwide plan, and you can speak to your folks daily back home with no long distance charges!

With both of you working your plan is doable as far as salary goes. Click on Forum List & check the Classifieds to get some ideas on rentals as well as the online newspapers. Most apartments are rented furnished (some are rather sparsely furnished) so no need to worry about that.
Do you plan to make a visit to check things out more before you move? I have a Cingular/AT&T cell & I can call anywhere in the States as Ronnie mentioned for no extra charge. You may see more of your family down here since lots of them will probably come visit you. 🙂
yeah we are planning on coming down but we can only come for a few days. enough to do my interview, look for apartments/houses, and check out some other things we're curious about. I'm glad I can call just like home, I talk to my mom everyday here and we live like 5 miles apart. I tihnk that will be the hardest thing. but im up for the challenge!
p.s.is there any places for rent you could recommend near the hospital?
Stay at Ronnie's place (who posted above) when you do your visit. He'll be very helpful to you.
