Advance Auto Ordering Online...Beware!
I recently made an online purchase for parts to be shipped. I received an order conformation by e mail and after reviewing the info discovered they keyed in VA (Virginia) instead of VI. Even though there's no Saint Thomas in Virginia or a zip code that's even close to ours the parts went there anyway. Even after I called to tell them of the error.
It gets better. They cancelled the first order and created a new invoice. Even with the corrected address it still went to Virginia again. I told them to just cancel the order entirely and I would get the parts else where.
I ordered from Rock Auto and the parts were here 3 days later. No issues with the address.
Now I can't get a credit for the second order from Advance. They even sent an e mail conformation. They now claim the parts were delivered.
You may still get the parts from the first supplier. When online ordering wasn't as simple as it is today and most suppliers didn't even have VI listed on their drop-down menus, many of us used VA instead and as long as the zip code was entered correctly the products got here with no problem. If you ordered online it's rather a mystery if you checked, "VI" but it was somehow scrambled to end up as "VA".
Nowadays if an online supplier doesn't list US Virgin Islands I email for confirmation of shipping here before ordering.
I always use Rock Auto... great service... and for tires, Tire Rack but I have to admit that the shipping charges can be high, not that it is their fault because of the weight and size of any tire...
I would always try and purchase my parts from Quality Auto Parts here in STX... Until one day the owner didn't want to get bothered with getting me some parts for my Suzuki... Now I only go to Car Zone and/or Colorama if I need something right away... the rest of the time Rock Auto gets it done...
The reason I went with Advance is because they price match Rock Auto. I called Advance Auto's customer service number and gave them the part number from the Rock Auto site. They will only match Rock Auto on the same exact part number. In that instance I paid while I was on with the service rep. and picked up in the store. As long as Advance has the part in stock I'll do it that way instead of paying shipping charges to Rock Auto. I doubt I'll give Advance another chance with shipping. It would be a different story if they owned up to the customer concern and refunded money without such a hassle.
By the way, the only catch with Advance is you have to have an online account with them through their site.

love rock auto
You can dispute the charge with your credit card company as long as it was credit and not debit. One of the advantages of using credit cards. Sounds like you have a good paper trail for the claim. They will have fun explaining where they delivered your parts.
you can also dispute the debit charge with certain debit cards. i can and have with mine

I plan on doing exactly that. Chase Visa has come to my rescue before on matters that were not so cut and dried. I think this happens with them more often than not. Their support team has sent at least a dozen e mails still in my in box. All that will go to Chase to prove my case. They did offer me a gift card to spend in their store to retain me as a customer. We'll see.
Thanks everyone for your feedback. Please help pass the word.
Always always always use rock auto. Fast, easy and correct parts. They are awesome. Pretty cheap too.
Rock Auto rocks. I use them all the time!
