According to aa.com, on June 15 American and its subsidiaries (i.e. American Eagle) will begin charging $15 for the first checked bag. There are loads of exceptions, however.

We missed the second checked bag policy by one day...at least we made this cutoff by 4 days!

Yeah everyone's nickle and diming the poor and middle class too much lately, passing on the cost to us all. I wish I could tell my employer, "hey you're going to have to pay me more for my services now!!! but that won't fly (no pun intended)

The airlines are surely struggling and have to take measures to stay in business. I don't like having to pay extra for the bags but it seems like a reasonable thing for them to do.

Next, the airlines will charge an excess baggage fee for passengers that aren't height/ weight proportional. Actually, Southwest Airlines has been doing that--sort of. If you need a seat belt extender, the airline charges for an extra seat provided the plane is full. This actually happened a couple of times to my old boss who weighed 350 lbs. (I’m guessing).

I know the issue of large passengers is a delicate one, and I'm no stick myself, but.....

On my last trip to the states I sat next to a man who was tall AND wide. The seat arm wouldn't go all the way and I only had full use of about 2/3 of my seat. He was in the middle seat and was, of course uncomfortable himself. There has to be a better way to handle such a situation.

Good news announced yesterday. Duty free checked liquor is exempt from this charge.

"Christensen reminded officials in her letter that the proceeds of taxes on the sale of V. I. rum are important to the territory's economy."

I didn't realize that there was ANY tax on liquor. That's hard to imagine because it's already dirt cheap. I always bring liquor back to the mainland and give it as gifts. Friends think I'm a big spender. 🙂 So does this mean there will be boxes of liquor on the baggage carousel? I assume that if it's packed in a bag, the liquor doesn't get a free ride.
