a good map or website-stx
Does anyone know a good website that I can see where things on St. Croix are located online? I would like to see where things are in relation to my apartment prior to moving, but cannot find a good map to do so. Is there any website with streets/roads? None of the search engine maps like expedia or yahoo maps include the islands very well.
thanks
Chad
Go to the web site www.st-croix-real-estate.com and follow the links to a map of St Croix.
It isn't great, but it should help you.

There's another one at http://www.coldwellbankervi.com/map.htm that is a bear to load with dial-up internet service and doesn't have a key to symbols it uses to designate places of interest, but has a decent amount of detail.
Can't remember yet where I found the online version of a very detailed print map you can pick up all over the island, but will keep trying. The print version of it has been as much our savior as the Settler's Handbook is -- it'sjust too bad the online versions won't print out well enough to read the tiny print used, and don't resize without distorting the text. Be sure to grab one at the ariport when you arrive -- it's pocket sized and travels well.

The best map of the island can be aquired from the gift shop at the scale house across from the fort in C-sted. I know that won't help you now, but it may later.
That (www.coldwellbankervi.com/map) was an awesome map of St. Croix. Does anyone know of one for STX?

Um, Bou'ya , STX is St. Croix.
Just goes to show you that I NEED more information 😉 - okay, ST. THOMAS, please.
Thanks,
Bou'ya
I have been looking for the same thing. I just found this site: http://www.pressenter.com/~inews/map.htm
it's kind of hard to read, but it's the most detailed map/maps I've found so far.
That's great, Marianna. Thank you.
Chad,
I think even the "best" map you find will be somewhat innaccurate, especially if you need to go to an address in the boonies. Formerly rural or remote areas get developed, and roads are closed, re-routed, or turned into private driveways. Then you have to figure out another way to get over a mountain, or something like that. You can't call for help because you're down in a valley. St. Croix has beaten me more than once at this game, and I've ended up just giving up and shrugging it off. This is one of the many ways in which it's often just plain kooky here.
I have a very detailed map and it looks very impressive on paper. But once you get out into the real world, things can sometimes be different. Anyone who can create a very accurate map of this place and update it regularly could probably make a lot of money. I'd pay a lot for a good map.
