I am delighted to report a positive experience with a local bank. I have accounts at 1stBank and Popular and have been... underwhelmed.

I need to open a business account and set up a merchant account to take credit cards. I spoke with Ro Khiani at Merchants Commercial Bank (Tutu mall area) earlier this summer and he was incredibly helpful despite my ignorance and stupid questions. I called him again a few days ago and again he went out of his way to make sure that I had the info I needed. I went in today to set up an account and was very pleased.

Despite the name, they also do personal checking accounts and such. I might move all of my accounts to that bank.

Ro is great, isn't he?

And the bank is so user friendly. I went in one day to deposit some funds in a friends account but didn't have the account number. He was in the BVI and needed $$$ immediately. They made the deposit and held the slip as they could not give out his number. It was so nice.

I have a commercial account with them but keep my personal at Banco. After 14 years with them I get excellent customer service.
