do you think we have a greater chance this season. Dr. Gray's prediction looks threatening for 2010.

alot of people have been saying this year will be "bad" what with the water not cooling enough and all of the other odd weather occurances in the states happening.

Think they said plan on 8, with 4 of them being whoppers!

I like the wind and rain but can do without the banging shutters and cleanup!

I love storms! Weeks without power kinda take the fun out of them though.

Yup, predictions are for above average sea surface temperatures and below average winds meaning less shear to break up the storms. Gonna be a hot one!

You could give your housesitter a hurricane prep checklist (how to secure the house, what to put away, what supplies to have, etc.), and/or line up outside help to do the work in the 24 hours leading up to the storm. Then monitor the storms from VT and call your housesitter to confirm that he/she is also monitoring and getting ready as needed.

A hurricane can hit or miss the VI whether or not a bad year is predicted, so I wouldn't get too concerned about whatever the forecast says for this year. Just have a plan no matter what.

Sometimes I wonder if the predictors use tea leaves or chicken bones. Rarely do they seem to be correct.

i can do that stxbob but omg the worry i would have up there. no one can take the precautions of your house like doing it yourself.
but good advice bob.

or go then get my butt back here before it hits.

lets hope dr. gray and his tea leaves (RIC) are wrong.

or go [to Vermont] then get my butt back here before it hits.

Do you mean come back right before it hits? Storm tracking is so inexact. Even 24 hours ahead, it's hard to know if we'll get a hit or a miss, or what the strength will be. There's a good chance you'll come back for a miss, or not come back for a hit.
