1 bedroom for STX transplant?
Hello, This coming August my girlfriend and I are planning to move to St. Croix. We are in need of a one bedroom place in preferably Christiansted. We are coming from New Hampshire and never experienced the lifestyle and after our much research we are extremely excited for this adventure. Our goal is to not spend more then 800 a month. Please post back if anyone will have anything available. Also post if anyone would like to give any advice on the island and moving to the island where to live where to work what do. All the help and advice can help! Thank you! Travis and Laura.
Juanita has a few apartments over on the Classified section. Go to forum list, click classifieds.
What are your skills?
Thanks Bombi. Travis and Laura, I sent you a PM.
We are both college graduates, we majored in communications with a minor in business marketing. Laura played college basketball and also has a lot of experience in personal training and such.
Your best bet is going through a realtor that know's what area's to stay away from. I went through Coldwell Banker when I moved here from Mass.
I'd try CB Lande-de-Wild ( ask for Joe Thorton or Pam McFadden. They are reps there that helped me out ). http://www.coldwellbankervi.com/
Also Try Remax on Company St.

And St. Croix Property Management

The three realtors above usually have a few 1 bedrooms listed.
This message board sometimes has a few listed but Craigslist will rarely have anything. I currently live at Long Reef apartments but I'm moving back to Boston soon. Long Reef Apartments usually has some 1 bedrooms available and efficiencies. The complex has a nice pool and is located w/in wakling distance to banks, grocery store, pharmacy, fast food etc. It's about a 20 minute walk to town ( during the day only ) until you have a car.
Good Luck!
oops, I meant Joe Thayer from Coldwell Banker. Joe Thornton used to play for the Bruins.

As comforting as the thought is of having a "place to go to". It is a bad idea to commit beyond a month when first moving here. I hope you choose (have chosen) a place like Juanitas where you can stay for the first few weeks while learning more about the island. good luck

Ok. so I haven't really looked at St Croix rental prices lately. But hey these prices are crazy. I checked out the Coldwell Banker rentals and wondered what planet they were living on. A Sugar Beach (sewage beach) rental for $4000 a month?? They even want $900 for a Long Reef and $1500 for a Southgate Courtyard. I'm sure they are trying to recapture some of the out of control condo insurance and maintenance costs for their gullible buyers...but.. Those units will only be rented at sky high prices by short term vacation people. It is time to develop some nice affordable units for us working folks. We all know that the best is a nice apartment attached to a house. Something has to change. I don't blame the local real estate companies, but they need to educate their sellers and buyers to help pull this market out of the toilet....let's be realistic.
I have a 2 bedroom 2 bath condo to share, it is at mill harbor complex which is a gated and secure. it is right on the ocean beach, they also have a pool, tennis, bar, restaurant. This condo was completly rebuilt only 2 years ago, so it is nice. This is my 4th day on stx and i am happy with my condo choice. location is important on st croix. mill harbor is located in christiansted. The rent is $750 plus half electric. The tv is included, their is a laundry room at the complex, their is internet wireless at the condo and you pay by the hour, day or month but local bars have free wireless, so their is that option. I will ask for a month to month lease so if you don't like it you can look for a new place then just give me 30 days notice. i do have an elderly cat, she is mostly asleep 24/7 and keeps to herself, hopefully you aren't allergic. I am a marine biologist and will not be working for awhile at least, just snorkeling and kayaking. your welcome to use my kayak whenever you want.
email me at relaxingq@live.com or call me at 443-466-8868 (phone only works in certain locations so email is best)
thanks, sue
Travis & Laura,
Where in NH are you from? My brother, his wife, my husband and I are in the beginning stages of planning a move to STX in the fall of 2011, we are also from NH.
