The VI Literary Festival and Book Fair’s goal is to promote the writers and writings of the United States Virgin Islands and the wider Caribbean as we embrace international literary cultures.
The event will provide the venue and atmosphere for the exhibition of select fine books, works of literature, scholarship, with pride of place given to locally written and published books, while entertaining new ideas and knowledge through panel discussions, seminars, workshops, and other media.
Our main Objectives:
• To promote literacy by giving Virgin Islanders
full access to books their authors and
scholars especially local authors and
researchers located in the Caribbean.
• To support and enrich our students by
exposing them to the books and writers that
reveal the unique culture and history of
the Virgin Islands and the wider Caribbean.
• To introduce Virgin Island authors to an
international reading market and make
connections between the reading public, the
publishing world, independent presses,
literary agents, and academic and
non-academic researchers.
If you are wondering:
the full admission at 180 dollars gets you into the vin d'honneur reception gala held at a very nice historic venue and which will include a film screening with director present. Amuses bouches and champagne will be provided for toasts led by important Virgin Islanders.
Full entry to all book readings and book signings by authors from various countries. The chance to participate in workshops with publishers and agents if you are interested. Lectures by scholars and writers.
Admission to the performative poetry event of dub poetry, lyrical poetry, and other performance styles by well-known and budding artists.
An exclusive literary tour of St Croix led by a tour guide of the National Park service and in the company of some of the authors who have written its architecture, nature, beaches, piers, and walkways into their work. This should be a particularly exciting activity with scholars, fans, and authors commenting on the real scene before them as it compares with what they had written or read.
Breakfast to be held for a limited number of individuals with the authors on the grounds of the St George Botanical gardens.
A children's field will be set up to let children interact with literature and books in their own way. Performers from St Croix, the US, and Europe will bring children's stories to life for the kids of our island in both English and Spanish.
It really will be an impressive affair. I hope you will get the word out!
Feel free to ask any questions you have. I may not be able to divulge some of the top secret details but I'll be as open as possible.
Do you know what venue the screening will be at?
The film screening will be at Government House on Thursday the 26th of March.
Please see the website for the full array of ticketing options that include an option for attending Gov´t House reception and basic entry or includes the whole weekend of events.
