Hi,
I and my family are considering a move to STX. Besides my wife & I we have two teenagers (13 & 16). We are all artistic & i was hoping someone may be able to shed some light on the local artist community and how easy it may be to get involved & even join a coop or get lessons / internships.
-My wife has been involved in ceramics for years & we understand island living could make that difficult, but am curious is there are any ceramic artists/ ceramics community. I see the museum had open studio time, Does antone know if there was a good turnout & what the facility like? (I have emailed the museum)
-My daughter is 13 & has experience with solder, welding, glass bead making, jewelry making, etc. Any thoughts on how she can maintain this interest on STX?
-Finally, my son is 16 and plays electric guitar & bass guitar. Anybody providing lessons on the island for an experienced guitar player. by this i mean intermediate to advanced lessons? He is into Metal and would want to continue that.
I have communicated & visited Good Hope Country Day School & I think their program is strong, but am looking for extracurricular stuff.
I really appreciate your help.

Look up Mandy Thody on Facebook, she has a studio and holds workshops and classes in ceramic sculpture and relief tile and such. Lots of artists here, but this is one I know that also teaches. Some jewelry making here, too, but I don't know about classes. Can't help with the music. Good luck!

Hello,
I was wondering what you have found. I have looked into the St. John School for the Arts, but I don't know the cost yet, nor do I know how realistic it will be getting there once a week or more.
I also have teens, a daughter that is 17 and a son nearly 15. We live aboard and hope to anchor or moor in Elephant Bay. My daughter is also into art, jewelry making, etc and plays violin. My son plays saxophone and before moving aboard, was into theater.
If you find any lessons or coops, please let us know or if the kids would like to meet, maybe that could work out.
