S.N.I.P. Event July 28-29 from 10 AM – 4 PM
Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Weekend At Bolongo Bay Beach Resort
St. Thomas, VI – July 18, 2012 – Lucky Paws Foundation of St. Thomas will be presenting its SNIP (Spay/Neuter Island Pets) program, a low-cost spay/neuter weekend for community (feral) animals managed by caregivers. This event will take place at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort in St. Thomas on July 28-29 from 10 AM – 4 PM.
According to Dellia Holodenschi, the Founder/President of 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization Lucky Paws Foundation, “It is our goal to end pet overpopulation in St. Thomas by providing low-cost spay/neuter services to the community animals cared for by so many humane people. Education along with an active sterilization program will greatly reduce the unacceptable killing of so many thousands of perfectly adoptable cats and dogs.”
A highly trained team of licensed VI and US veterinarians and certified veterinary technicians will be joined by dedicated volunteers on a fully equipped surgical spay/neuter vehicle donated by the Animal Rescue League of Boston. According to lead veterinarian Michelle Mehalick of St. Croix, “Over the two day event, our team will strive to alter approximately 150 community animals. The last event on October 23-24, 2010 resulted in over 100 animals being serviced.”
Appointments must be made immediately, but absolutely by no later than Monday, July 23 by calling Dellia at 340-513-1854. At the time of admission, a contribution of $25 would be greatly appreciated. Walk-ins will not be accepted during the event.
Additional volunteers are needed to assist with the clinic in admission and discharge, anesthetic prep and induction, and recovery. Also needed are donations of clean used towels and blankets and donations or loans of carriers and crates.
This game changing event would not be possible without the generosity of the following sponsors: Animal Rescue League of Boston, Aquafina, Bolongo Bay Beach Resort, Gatorade, Lucky Paws Foundation, STX Animal Welfare Center, Virgin Islands Daily News, and West Indies Corporation.
