Hello All,

I'm considering a job opportunity on STT. I've done lots of research about the pros and cons of island life. The one thing I couldn't find sufficient information on was the dating/single's scene for thirty-somethings. The information I was able to find stated that 64.4-percent of VI inhabitants were between the ages of 15-64, which was not helpful.

Can any of you shed light on the dating scene for women in that age group?

Thanks!

LL

Thirtysomething women are in HIGH demand! Haha! And it kinda depends on your race...for example, me, as a white guy, my options are very limited (gee, my personality, maybe?? Har-har!), due to the 7 White Men for every 1 White Woman...hence the popular saying "You never lose your girlfriend in STT...you just lose your TURN!" And for the Ladies: "The odds are good....but the goods are ODD!" Haha! If you are of African decent, well, 80% of the island is, too,so your options are wide open there...so, basically....this is a woman's Paradise (from a male perspective anyway....).

Hey Marty!

I'm biracial: African-American and Puerto Rican from NY. I just wanted to see if it was a situation where the single guys leave in search of greener pastures and all the married folks remain. You've been helpful!

Thanks loads. 😀

LL

Opening toward your heart means you are taken.

Wait a minute. There's actually a bracelet that works as an availability indicator? LOL. This ought to be fun. What do they look like? Does everyone where them?

They are very popular here...the opening AWAY from your heart means you are available, 'looking for love'....opening TOWARDS your heart means taken, 'Love is reserved for someone already'...

Intriguing. To have one of these bracelets is the norm, then? Everyone wears one?

I would recommend going to The Pirate's Chest up at Paradise Point to get one...they are sold all over the place, but, Sean, the owner of The Pirate's Chest, will give a 20% discount to anyone that mentions VI Now when they make a purchase at his store...

They come in gold, silver and a combo of gold and silver, where the bracelet is silver and the hook and wrap is gold...

LOL. Thank you but I've got that covered. I am in the market for an island car, so I'll be taking you up on the $40 check-up etc. So, I reckon we'll meet before the mosquitoes tire of my blood.

I'm excited and cannot wait!

Welcome to the islands! T

his truly is a special place - important that you enjoy each day. Take it a day at a time and patience will be a virtue.

To say that we have plenty of eclectic folks here is an understatement - but that adds to the charm of a great life style.

Best wishes

Thanks! I've been here since Saturday and started looking at flats yesterday. I'm still hoping to get something in my price range but things haven't looked good. At all. I'm keeping the faith and staying patient.

LL, now on island.

I am happy to announce that I've secured flat and moved in. Still getting settled and in the market for a vehicle...something high off the ground and dependable. I've looked in the usual places: Island Trader, E&M board, here...so if anyone comes across anything, please let me know. Around $2k.

Thanks,

LL

LL,

I've been looking around at vehicles as well. There's virtually nothing available in that price range from what I've seen so far. I do know that Steve from Olympic Rentals has one he's selling for $2,500. He might be willing to negotiate. I think he said it was a Focus. If you're willing to spend a little for something more reliable then Hertz is selling their 2007 Aerios for $7,000, Avis has a Brio for something like $6,500, and Olympic has a couple of 2005 Jeeps for $9,000.

Anyway, I'll PM you Steve's number. I think I'm just going to spend the money and get a new Jeep.

Dang, I just noticed you're on STT. That info was for STX so it won't be much help. Sorry.

Thanks for the info, Justin.

New might be the way to go because it will be reliably under warranty.

Check with fleet sales at the rental companies on STT before you buy new. The dealerships in STX charge an average of about $3,000 over MSRP for their vehicles. The rental companies are selling their 07 and 08 fleet for TRADE IN prices. Every one that I've seen has had 20k or less mileage. No warranty but the price is hard to argue with and the vehicles "should" be reliable.
