Automotive club/car enthusiasts? I am planning move to STX

Hi Ryan.

I don't live on STX so I can't help you with any specific housing or employment recommendations. For many jobs no college is not a problem as most employers here value experience more than academic credentials. Given your age your experience is limited but if you're willing to work there are jobs to be had. Your initial job may be more a matter of making ends meet and less a career but once you get to know people you will find other opportunities. If you're flexible and willing to exercise some patience until a better opportunity comes along you can find your niche.

As to cars, most here are LHD but I have seen a RHD car or two here on STT and local buses are RHD. It isn't "hard" to get a car through customs and registration but it can be time consuming because the local "DMV" has not historically been the most efficient operation.

The particular vehicles you're considering bringing will be fine for most paved areas of STX but there really isn't anyplace you can drive very fast and their limited clearance can be a problem on the unpaved roads where you and your new friends may live. Also, maintenance and parts are expensive to ship but perhaps since you can do the work yourself that is an acceptable cost to you.

Lastly, you might consider checking to see if the TSA is hiring for positions at the STX airport. Occasionally they need personnel and your experience might help get your application favorable consideration.

Thanks for the reply. I do not mind working hard at a "get me by" job to show people I am serious about finding better. I will also look into the TSA, that is a good idea.

As for my car, yeah it was built to drive fast, but then again, I am an island man at heart, and I just would like to bring my car because of the blood, sweat, and tears I have put into her. She is stock bodied, and not lowered so she has a little bit of clearance for those bumpy paved roads, and some dirt... She is just another thing for me to enjoy driving to the beach.

I understand the DMV issues, and I read up on the thread "QUICK!!! Before Ralph gets back! " hah. Sounds like reasons I don't visit my DMV at all...

There is quite a few people on the island who drag race. i've seen a few nice cars. there is one street rod, a Model A ford sedan that Rich owns.
Once there, I would stop in at RPM, the auto repair place at 5 corners. He is from AZ. THe guy in the A/C shop next to him, has the president of the racing association working for him.

Email Alexandra, her husband owns the company that does the refueling at the airport.

I'm totally gobsmacked that nobody has directed you to the first announcement on this forum which says. "Click here if new to this board.."

You need to go there and really assimilate the vast amount of available information about relocating before even THINKING about bringing your car(s) here.

You also should do a PMV.

At 21 years of age with not a whole lot of work experience under your belt, your enthusiasm is commendable but a real effort of research on your part seems in order (as in really researching this forum) before asking about bringing your cars here.

I'm sorry for the lack of searching. I do understand the aspects of transporting a car here as the expense, roadway conditions, and then the lack there of paved roadways. I do love my car, and would NEVER plan on selling it, and I could not leave it stateside long as I have no place to keep it long term.

I am trying to understand what searches I should be doing more of? I am completely open to people criticizing my posts, and questions as it helps me to learn more, and do things correctly in the future, but I need a little more info as to what I am missing here......

I do see your point about a PMV, but I come from a family who is island friendly and I would have no problems living there, just need to kick the mainland habits. I plan on moving on a limited budget, as I did when I worked for Southwest Airlines. I did it once, and got stuck moving home to help my disabled parent, and I have a chance to go again, so I wish to take it asap so as I do not lose my chance.

I would agree with STT. Read, read, read. I would also suggest that when you do move down, wait a few months before bringing your treasure down. Make sure that this place is someplace you want to spend a lot of time.

I do agree. I plan on keeping her in storage for a few before I bring her, 1 because of that, and 2 because of funds.....

Also, I am reading, slow and steady though heh. I am reading responses from threads such as "Do you really enjoy living in the vi now" and ect.... just about pro's and cons, and crooked officials due to the small population, and many people being related and ect....

At the top left side of the page is a box marked "Virgin Islands Moving Center". Clilck on it. The "what to expect" section has moving stories. These are more complete and informative than any one various thread.

If you are planning on storing the cars in the states for a while, then I say, come on down. Just make sure you have plenty of cash and a return ticket -- hey, you'll want to go home sometime.
