Public schools in the U.S. Virgin Islands are managed by the USVI Department of Education, and are available on St. Croix (K-12), St. Thomas (K-12) and St. John (K-8). Private and parochial schools also exist. There are no schools on Water Island. There are children on St. John and Water Island that commute to St. Thomas for school; and while the percentage is far fewer there are also a few students that commute from St. Thomas to St. John. Some parents home school their children. The University of the Virgin Islands has a campus on St. Thomas and on St. Croix.
